Apache Kyuubi

Apache Kyuubi is a distributed SQL gateway that provides JDBC access to data in your data lake. When you add Kyuubi as a data source in Acceldata Data Observability Cloud (ADOC), ADOC crawls your Kyuubi databases and lets you apply data reliability policies to the discovered assets.

Prerequisites

  • A data plane of version 26.10.0 or later, in a running state. For more information, see Data Plane Installation Guide.
  • Network connectivity from the data plane to the Kyuubi server and, if you use Keycloak authentication, to the Keycloak token endpoint.

Supported Capabilities and Limitations

ADOC supports Kyuubi only with the Pushdown data plane engine. The Spark engine isn't supported.

With the Pushdown engine, the following capabilities aren't available for Kyuubi:

Features that the Pushdown engine doesn't support also aren't available for Kyuubi. For more information, see Pushdown Data Engine.

Add Apache Kyuubi as a Data Source

To add Apache Kyuubi as a data source, navigate to the left main navigation bar and select Control Center > Integrations > Add Data Source. Select the Apache Kyuubi data source card from the available options.

Step 1: Enter Data Source Details

  1. In Data Source name, enter a name for the data source.
  2. Optionally, in Description, enter a description.
  3. Ensure the Data Reliability toggle is enabled.
  4. In Select Dataplane, select a data plane that is in a running state. If you don't have one, select Setup Data Plane to create one.
  5. Select Next.

Step 2: Enter Connection Details

On the Edit Connection Details page, enter the following information in the Apache Kyuubi Connection Details section and click Next.

Field

Description

Kyuubi JDBC URL

Required. The JDBC URL of your Kyuubi server, in the format jdbc:hive2://<host>:<port>/.

JDBC Username

The username that ADOC uses to connect to Kyuubi.

Authenticate via Keycloak (OAuth2)

Turn on to authenticate using Keycloak. When enabled, the Keycloak fields appear.

JDBC Password

Required when Authenticate via Keycloak (OAuth2) is turned off. The password for the JDBC user.

Keycloak Token Endpoint

The token endpoint of your Keycloak realm, in the format http://<host>:<port>/realms/<realm-name>/protocol/openid-connect/token.

Keycloak Client ID

The client ID registered in Keycloak for Kyuubi.

Keycloak Client Secret

The client secret for the Keycloak client. This field doesn't appear when **Use Secret Manager** is turned on.

Keycloak Scope (optional)

The OAuth2 scope to request, if your Keycloak configuration requires one.

Use Secret Manager

Turn on to retrieve the credential from a secret manager instead of entering it directly.

Select Secret Manager

The secret manager that stores the credential.

Secret Key/Name

The key or name of the secret in the selected secret manager.

Dataplane Engine

Select Pushdown. Spark isn't supported for Kyuubi.

Select Test Connection to verify the connection, then select Next.

Step 3: Set Up Observability

  1. In Databases, select the databases that you want ADOC to crawl.
  2. To run the crawler on a schedule, turn on Enable Crawler Execution Schedule, then do the following:
    1. In Time zone, select the time zone for the schedule.
    2. In Schedules, select + Add to add one or more schedules. ADOC displays the next execution time below the schedule list.
  3. To receive alerts when the crawler fails, turn on Notify on Crawler Failure, then select one or more channels in Select notification channels.
  4. To receive a notification when the crawler completes successfully, turn on Notify On Success
  5. Select Submit.

You have successfully created your data source in ADOC. Navigate to the Connectors tab in the Integrations page to view the data source.
