Upgrade Data Plane
The Data Plane is the execution layer of the Acceldata Data Observability Cloud (ADOC) that connects to your data sources and runs tasks such as crawling, profiling, and policy execution. When a newer Data Plane version is released, ADOC surfaces it directly in the Data Plane list so you can move to the latest version without reinstalling. This page describes how to upgrade a deployed Data Plane from the ADOC UI.
When an Upgrade Is Available
ADOC compares the version running on each Data Plane against the latest version available to your environment. When a newer version exists, an Upgrade Available indicator appears next to the Data Plane's Status in the Data Plane list. Data Planes that are already on the latest version do not show this indicator.
The upgrade is applied in place. The Data Plane keeps its name, namespace, registered data sources, and existing configuration. Only the version, and any configuration you choose to change, is updated.
Before You Begin
- Confirm the target version is compatible with your Control Plane. For supported version combinations, see Compatibility Guidelines for Control Plane, SDK, and Python Versions.
- Back up your
values.yamland any related configuration files before you start, so you can restore your current settings if needed. - Schedule the upgrade during a maintenance window. The Data Plane restarts its components as part of the upgrade, which can briefly interrupt running jobs.
- Make sure you have administrator access to the Data Plane settings in ADOC.
Upgrade a Data Plane
- In the left navigation menu, open Control Center -> Settings and select the Data Planes tab.
- Locate the Data Plane that shows the Upgrade Available indicator next to its Status.
- Click the vertical ellipsis (⋮) at the end of the Data Plane row, then select Configure Data Plane. The Configure DataPlane page opens.
- In the Version field, select the target version from the list of available versions. The currently deployed version is shown by default; choose the newer version you want to upgrade to.
- Review the remaining fields on the Configure Data Plane tab. Data Plane Type, Data Plane Name, and Namespace Name are retained from the existing installation and should not be changed during an upgrade. Leave the registry, registry prefix, and Service user values as they are unless your environment requires a change.
- Click Update Dataplane to register the selected version with the Control Plane.
- Open the Deployment Config tab to review the Values.yaml Config. Edit the YAML only if your deployment requires changes for the new version. Click Validate to check the configuration, then click Save and Apply.
- Open the Application Config tab. ADOC confirms that the Data Plane is registered to the Control Plane and lists the current application settings, including Global Storage, Secrets Manager, Spark Runtime, and the enabled engines. Review the configuration types under Update Application Config, make any required changes, and click Apply Config.
Verify the Upgrade
After the upgrade completes, return to the Data Planes tab and confirm the following for the upgraded Data Plane:
- The Upgrade Available indicator no longer appears next to the Status.
- Status returns to Running.
- DataPlane Version reflects the version you selected.
- Deployment Status shows Completed.
- Updated At shows the time of the upgrade.
After the Data Plane is running on the new version, validate your existing data sources — particularly connectors, JDBC configurations, and secret integrations — to confirm that crawling, profiling, and policy execution continue to work as expected.
