Install Pulse Agents

Deploy Pulse Agents on cluster hosts to collect metrics, logs, events, and service-level telemetry.

Pulse Agents collect data from Hadoop, Kubernetes, and standalone environments and send it to Pulse for monitoring, analytics, and troubleshooting.

Pulse Agent Components

The Pulse Hydra Agent includes:

  • Node Agent
  • Logs Agent
  • JMX Agent
  • AXN Agent
  • YARN Metrics Agent
  • Impala Agent
  • JMX-Trans Agent
  • Hydra Agent
  • Profiler Agent

For detailed information about each Agent, see Pulse Agents

How Pulse Agent Deployment Works

Pulse uses the Hydra framework to manage agent deployment and configuration.

Hydra Server

The Hydra Server runs on the Pulse Server or Namespace, and is responsible for:

  • Managing agent configurations
  • Deploying agent updates
  • Monitoring agent health
  • Tracking deployment status

Hydra Agent

A Hydra Agent runs on each monitored host and is responsible for:

  • Receiving and applying configuration updates
  • Managing local agent services
  • Reporting status to the Hydra Server

Choose a Deployment Method

The deployment steps vary based on your Hadoop cluster distribution, CDP or Non-CDP (HDP or ODP). Select the deployment procedure that matches your environment.

Install Agents on Non-CDP Cluster Nodes

Deploy agents to HDP, ODP, and other non-CDP Hadoop distributions.

Available deployment methods:

  • Install Agents Using Accelo Command (with SSH access)
  • Install Agents Using Offline Method (without SSH access)
  • Install Agents Using Ambari UI
  • Add Newly Added Hosts in Ambari Cluster to Pulse and Deploy Agents

Install Agents on CDP Cluster Nodes

Deploy agents to Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) environments.

For details, see Install Agents on CDP Cluster Nodes.

Enable JMXTrans Agent

Configure JMX-based monitoring for Hadoop services.

Next Steps

After deploying agents:

  1. Verify agent health.
  2. Confirm metrics collection.
  3. Validate log collection.
  4. Verify service discovery.
  5. Confirm connector functionality.
