Enable Last Accessed Updates

To display the Last Accessed timestamp for files and directories in the HDFS File Explorer, HDFS access time updates must be enabled.

ODP

Navigation

  • In the Ambari UI, go to Services > HDFS > Configs.
  • Search for dfs.namenode.accesstime.precision.
  • Set the value to 1.
  • Save the configuration.
  • Restart the NameNode service for the change to take effect.

Note

If the property is not available, add it under Advanced hdfs-site (or Custom hdfs-site, depending on your Ambari version).

If dfs.namenode.accesstime.precision is set to 0 (the default in some Hadoop distributions), HDFS does not update file access times. As a result, the Last Accessed field in Pulse remains empty.

CDP

Navigation

  • In the Cloudera Manager UI, go to Clusters > HDFS > Configuration.
  • Search for Access Time Precision (dfs_namenode_accesstime_precision).
  • Set the value to 1 second.
  • Save the configuration.
  • Restart the NameNode service for the change to take effect.

Note

If Access Time Precision (dfs.namenode.accesstime.precision) is set to 0 seconds, HDFS does not update file access times. As a result, the Last Accessed field in Pulse remains empty.
