Log Details

Follow these steps to access and view log message details in Pulse.

  1. In the Pulse UI, select Logs from the left navigation bar.

  2. On the Logs page, search and filter logs as needed. The Messages pane displays the log details.

The information shown in the Messages pane varies depending on the log type, such as Application, HDFS Audit, or Ranger Audit.


Application Logs

The log message details pane displays the following details of a log file.

Column Name

Description

Log Time

The timestamp when the log entry was recorded.

Service

The service or application component generating the log.

Host

The host machine where the log was captured.

YARN App ID

The YARN application identifier associated with the log entry.

Container ID

The container identifier (if applicable) where the task ran.


HDFS Audit Logs

The log message details pane displays the following details of a log file.

Column Name

Description

Log Time

The time at which the log was captured.

UGI

The User Group Information code. This value is displayed along with the authorization level given to the UGI.

CMD

The command used at that particular time. To copy the command, click icon that appears next to the command name when you hover over the command.

SRC

The source path. To copy the path, click icon that appears next to the path name when you hover over the path.

DST

The destination path. To copy the path, click icon that appears next to the path name when you hover over the path.

PREM

The permissions given to the user, either read, write, or execute. To copy the permission, click icon that appears next to the permission name when you hover over the permission.

Allowed

The permission status of an operation, true if operation allowed and false if operation not allowed.

IP

The IP address of the user performing the operation.

Proto

The protocol used.

Caller Context

The tracking id of the application. To copy the ID, click icon that appears next to the ID name when you hover over the ID.


Ranger Audit Logs

The log message details pane displays the following details of a log file.

Column Name

Description

Timestamp

The date and time at which the log was captured.

Host Name

The host name from which the log was captured.

Resource Type

The type of the resource on which the log was generated. This can be Table, database, column, or null.

Event Time

The date and time when the event was recorded.

Resource

The name of the resource on which the log was generated.

Component

The name of the component on which the log was generated.

Action

The database action associated. This can be create, select or any.

Request Data

The nature of the information requested by the query. You can view the request query code.

Client Type

The type of the client on which log was generated.

Client IP

The IP address of the client on which the log was generated.

Agent Host

The agent host name from which the log was captured.

Cluster Name

The cluster on which the log was generated.

Log File Path

The path of the log file.
