Platform Architecture
Acceldata xDP is a unified, cloud-native data platform that allows you to build, operate, and scale data products from a single interface.
xDP operates on a secure split-plane architecture. It decouples the management and orchestration layer (hosted by Acceldata) from the execution layer (running inside your own infrastructure). This ensures you benefit from centralized governance and seamless orchestration, while your actual data never leaves your secure environment.
The Split-Plane Architecture
The platform is divided into two primary environments that communicate via a secure, outbound-only connection.
- The Control Plane (Managed by Acceldata): This is the centralized "brain" of the platform hosted in the Acceldata Network. It provides the unified web interface, handles identity and access management (IAM), orchestrates workflows, and manages cluster lifecycles. It never directly processes or stores your business data.
- The Data Plane (Your Environment): This is the execution layer deployed within your enterprise Kubernetes environment (such as AWS EKS, Azure AKS, or Google GKE). It runs the actual compute engines (Spark, Trino), executes your jobs, and connects directly to your secure data stores.
- The Cloudbridge: The Data Plane connects to the Control Plane via a secure, outbound-only HTTPS connection. Because the Data Plane initiates all communication, you do not need to open any inbound firewall ports, keeping your network perimeter completely secure.

xDP provides a complete suite of tools for data engineering, analytics, and platform administration without the need to manage fragmented standalone systems.
- Cluster Lifecycle Management: Provision, configure, and seamlessly upgrade isolated compute clusters across multiple regions directly from the xDP interface.
- Integrated Data Processing: Execute batch and streaming workloads using managed Apache Spark, or run highly performant federated SQL queries using Trino.
- Workflow Orchestration: Build, schedule, and monitor complex, multi-step data pipelines using a visual builder powered by a managed Apache Airflow engine.
- Interactive Data Science: Spin up on-demand JupyterHub notebook environments with built-in support for Python, Scala, and R, directly connected to your data.
Security and Data Privacy
Security is built into the foundation of the xDP architecture, designed for strict enterprise compliance.
- Zero Data Movement: Your raw data and query results remain strictly within your Data Plane and data stores. The Control Plane only handles metadata and orchestration commands.
- Strict Network Isolation: The outbound-only Cloudbridge model ensures your data environment remains invisible to external inbound network traffic.
- Enterprise Identity: Native integration with major Identity Providers (Okta, Azure AD, Keycloak) enables seamless Single Sign-On (SSO) and fine-grained, role-based access control (RBAC) down to the specific workspace and catalog level.
- Agnostic Data Integration: xDP securely connects to your existing storage layers—including cloud object stores (S3, GCS), Hadoop (HDFS), and modern open table formats like Apache Iceberg and Delta Lake—without requiring data duplication.
