Pulse Alerts help you monitor the health and performance of your system infrastructure.
You can track key modules such as CPU, memory, database health, HDFS, and other critical components. Pulse provides metrics for each module, and you can apply filters to these metrics to create alerts that match your organization’s requirements.
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Alert Notifications | Each alert can be configured with one or more notifications. A notification defines who should be informed when an alert is triggered. Pulse supports multiple notification channels so you can route alerts to the appropriate individuals or teams. |
| Alert Actions | An alert can also trigger an automated action. An action is a playbook executed to help bring the system back to normal operation when a condition is met. Actions allow you to respond quickly and consistently to issues. |
| Alert Incidents | When an alert is triggered repeatedly within a specific time window, Pulse groups these occurrences into an incident. You can view incidents on the Incidents tab in the Alerts page. |
Alert Use Cases
You can create alerts for a wide range of scenarios, such as:
- Monitoring YARN MapReduce jobs—for example, the number of mappers or reducers
- Detecting Spark jobs that exceed a defined completion time
- Monitoring CPU, disk, network, or application-level performance
- Tracking resource usage across services and applications
Pulse also provides a collection of ready-to-use alerts to help you get started quickly.
Types of Alerts
Pulse supports three types of alerts:
| Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Stock Alerts | Out-of-the-box alerts provided by Pulse. These include predefined filters, conditions, and actions. You can enable or disable these alerts as needed. |
| Custom Alerts | Alerts you create from scratch. You define the metric filters, conditions, notifications, and actions. |
| Predefined Alerts | A special category of Stock Alerts. These alerts include multiple queries and can be edited to fit your use case. |
