Atlan

Atlan is a modern data collaboration and governance platform that helps teams easily find, understand, and trust their data. It unifies data assets, enriches metadata with automation, and integrates seamlessly with leading data tools. By providing smart search, governance controls, and open APIs, Atlan ensures businesses can streamline workflows, enhance collaboration, and make data-driven decisions with confidence.

ADOC integrates its data reliability, data quality scores and policy information with Atlan’s custom metadata framework. This integration empowers users to maintain high data reliability and usability within Atlan’s data collaboration platform, ensuring that organizations can trust their data for critical decision-making and operations.

Prerequisites

Before integrating Atlan with the Acceldata Observability Cloud (ADOC) platform, ensure you have the following:

  • Atlan Base URL – The endpoint URL required to access the Atlan Data Catalog.
  • API Token – A valid authentication token for secure API access and data exchange.
  • An active Atlan account with the necessary API access permissions.
  • An Acceldata Platform instance with data quality monitoring enabled.
  • API credentials for both Atlan and Acceldata.

Once these prerequisites are met, you can proceed with the integration setup.

Configure API Access on Atlan

Before integrating the Atlan Data Catalog with the Acceldata Data Observability Platform, you must configure API access on Atlan. Follow these steps:

  1. Create an API Key (Service Principal)

    1. Log in to Atlan using an admin account.
    2. Navigate to the Admin Panel and generate an API key for secure access.
  2. Create a Persona

    1. Go to Governance > Personas in Atlan.
    2. Create a new Persona that represents the API user or service accessing Atlan from Acceldata.
  3. Define Access Policies

    1. Assign the necessary permissions to the Persona by creating an appropriate Policy.
    2. Ensure the policy includes read and write access to metadata, assets, and data catalog APIs based on the integration requirements.

Viewing Policy Execution and Data Reliability Insights in Atlan

Once you integrate the Atlan data catalog with an ADOC data source, they can seamlessly access policy scores, and metadata of the ADOC asset within the Atlan workspace. Any policies executed on the mapped Acceldata data source, such as reconciliation or data quality policies, will have their execution status, results, and metadata reflected in Atlan.

For example, if a reconciliation policy runs on an Acceldata data source mapped to Atlan, its execution status (successful or failed) and data quality assessment (reliable or unreliable) can be viewed directly in Atlan. Users can also drill down into execution details for further analysis.

Additionally, asset details and an ADOC summary, including the Data Reliability Score, Data Quality Score, and Reconciliation Score, can be viewed within the Atlan asset overview workspace. This integration ensures data reliability insights from Acceldata are accessible within Atlan, helping users make informed decisions about data quality, freshness, and drift.

Sometimes the policy scores may not appear in Atlan after the initial execution on ADOC. Workaround: Execute it once more and you should be able to see the scores on your Atlan workspace correctly.
