Visualize Application Resources

Pulse provides a detailed application-level view to visualize how YARN resources are allocated and utilized.

It visualizes queue performance, concurrent application activity, and container usage to help identify bottlenecks, detect contention, and optimize resource distribution across the cluster.

Steps

  1. In the Pulse UI, go to YARN > Application Explorer.
  2. On the Application Explorer page, click the Tachometer icon next to the application ID.

The application details appear in the right pane, with the Summary Panel and detailed sections for Queue Availability, Concurrent Applications, and Container Availability.

The Summary Panel displays the application ID, type, name, status, duration, start time, and end time for the selected application.

Key Insights

  • Queue Availability: Shows resource allocation and utilization for the queue running the selected application. Includes Memory Usage and vCore (CPU) Usage charts to track resource consumption over time.
  • Concurrent Applications: Lists other applications running simultaneously, helping identify resource contention and optimize capacity planning.
  • Container Availability: Displays the number of containers per host and their usage during application runtime, with charts showing maximum and average container allocation.
